Our Family
Joseph and Janice Gali are intimately connected to their land, and their dedication is best displayed in the unique and excellent wines produced from their vineyard.
Joseph Gali, Owner
Dr. Joseph Gali approaches winegrowing with the same vigor and respect he has approached everything in life. Born in Antioch, Turkey, completing medical school, and caring for his pediatric patients in the Bay Area since 1988, Joseph has a deep appreciation and reverence for the practices and arts that have come before him, both in medicine and in farming. He sees winegrowing as one of the greatest professions in the world.
Drawn to the land, Joseph’s passion for cultivation began in his uncle’s orchard on the sunny Mediterranean coast where he spent many summer months in his teens helping to pick fruit. California’s land has allowed him to hone his growing talents, producing everything from blueberries, persimmons, kiwis and apples to quince, mulberries and honey from his many beehives.
Joseph splits his week between caring for his patients and caring for his wine grapes. On days he works at the vineyard, Joseph spends time tending vines — from early mornings covered by ocean fog, until the sunset’s breezy, cool glow appears. In the many miles he walks daily between rows, he has gotten to know small variations in the microclimates and the soil of his land. For seasonal work that requires more hands tending the vines, such as pruning and handpicking, the Gali’s employ local workers who have been with the family since the beginning.
Janice Gali, Owner
Janice Gali brings her business knowledge, eye for design and social nature to everything that she does. From managing the sale of grapes to establishing the Gali Vineyards tasting room, her background in sales and real estate has created an equally fruitful life partnership.
Growing up in San Jose, California, Janice has always been active. Her energy keeps her connected to both the Los Gatos and Corralitos communities. Janice spent those first years as vineyard co-owner researching the crop market, advertising their grapes for sale, meeting winemakers at their property and negotiating price per ton. Writing contracts, invoicing clients and managing tonnage on the day of harvest gave her broad experience. To continue learning the wine business, she worked in other tasting rooms and took a wine marketing course at University of California, Davis.
A dream of having her own storefront led Janice on a five-year quest to find retail space in downtown Los Gatos. Her persistence paid off with the opening of Gali Vineyards tasting room in August 2021.
